We are now starting the second quarter of this Rotary year and we are looking forward to another busy and fulfilling month.

To start things off we will have the pleasure and honour to induct Occo van Tijn as a new member of our club.  Occo is a Certified Professional Accountant who brings us his talents under the classification of Accountant.  Welcome Occo, we are very pleased that you chose to join with us in the excellent work of Rotary.

This past month we had the pleasure of awarding local talented artist, Peter Lauricella the Kent Farndale Bursary for the Arts in conjunction with Kent Farndale herself.  As we look forward, on October 9th, it will be our opportunity to assist Kristen Nancekivell and Jake Foster to further their educational endeavours.  Bursaries of  $1,000.00 each will be presented at the Port Perry High School Commencement.  Congratulations to all three recipients.

On October 16th, your president will visit Kids Safety Village to view the renovation work being done there.  We have committed $3,000.00 to assist in this work.  Kids Safety Village is instrumental in educating the youth of Durham Region about safety on the streets of our cities towns, and villages as well as Durham’s rural areas .

Finally, The Rotary District 7070 Conference takes place from October 24th to 26th.  I urge all Rotarians to register and attend this most valuable event.  Rotarian and Past President Bob Strickert is in charge of the Hospitality House and would love to see all the Port Perry Rotarians there soaking up everything Rotary.  If you haven’t committed to go yet, get your registration in so you don’t miss out.

~President Bob Brownson
