The District 7070 Conference was held October 24-26 at the Westin Prince in Toronto. About 350 Rotarians from the 55 Clubs in the district as well as our exchange students were in attendance.

It was a very good conference complete with a James Bond (agent 7070) theme, a real Golden Girl, an Aston Martin, Hospitality suites on the first night, a Casino night and a House of Friendship with 21 booths. There were very good speakers including notables such as Paul Henderson. Speaker topics which I took in included Camp X, how the Rotary Foundation helps us change the world (Bob B said he would try to get the video), and the challenges that a young aboriginal woman faced while growing up in Canada. This last topic was delivered by Gabrielle Scrimshaw who was one of the most articulate speakers that I have ever listened to. There was a sweat equity project – 20,000 meals were prepared as part of the Kids Against Hunger program. There were gift basket draws and crocuses for sale which raised enough money to vaccinate 7,500 children against Polio and contribute 850$ to the Foundation. The meals were great and of course the camaraderie with 300 odd Rotarians made the conference enjoyable.

I find these conferences are an excellent way to really understand and appreciate the impact of Rotary on the world.
