Spousal night held at Lake Scugog Camp.  Truly a noble institution.

Dana Leahey hosted our evening starting with a brief history and purpose of the camp.  We toured the existing facility: cabins, fire pit, boat house, beach front, activities cabin, arts cabin, archery shed, and of course we met the Mule(Hank?), the defender of the camp.  The highlight for us was seeing the completed Cabin Remake that our club undertook in the spring of this year.  Excellent job by Bob Sawatsky and his recruits.  The cabin looks fantastic.  One down, 20 something to go.  It certainly felt good to see our do gooding, doing good.

Gary Hoey provided some emotional, personal thoughts on how the Camp gave him the chance and the confidence to find success in his life.  He continues to give back every summer as he lends his time and expertise to supporting people with less fortune than ourselves.  Emily Clark shared some of her hopes for the camp during a fine dinner and lead us in one of the most interesting grace songs I have ever been a part of.

The camp provides shelter, friendship, and opportunities for people in our community that can blossom with the love and compassion found in the camp. Operated by the United Church of Canada, it is funded through donations.  It costs $1000 to pay for one camper for the summer.  In operation since 1931, the Camp needs our help to maintain the condition of the facility and to be the wonderful place for people to grow as people.

It's exactly these types of projects we as Rotarians can be proud of.
