The Rotary Club of Port Perry, in our endless pursuit of community care and do gooding, make
the following unfortunate and necessary announcements:
Due to the Covid 19 Virus, we are canceling our Rotary Spring Gala and the Port Perry Rotary
Waterfront Ribfest for 2020.
The Gala, held annually for the past 11 years, has raised over $400,000. We have every
expectation to resume our Spring Gala in 2021.
This year’s Port Perry Waterfront Ribfest was scheduled for the last weekend of July (24th,25th
and 26th). The current government projections are that self distance restrictions will likely still be
in place until August or September. Out of an abundance of care for our community and
partners, we have elected to cancel this event now and begin our preparation for 2021. We will
certainly miss the opportunity to celebrate with our town in our mid-summer festival. Since
inception, the Ribfest has raised over $200,000.
We realize the health and economic impact of the Covid 19 crisis is extreme. To help where we
can, we have donated $10,000 to Operation Scugog, our local food bank. We hope this will help
provide assistance during this crisis to those in need, and impacted by this disaster. We have
also donated $2000 to Community Care Durham (Scugog) to help with a new food packaging
and distribution program.
As we make these difficult decisions to cancel our fundraising efforts and pledge what we can to
assist our neighbours, we would certainly like to do more. If you find you have the ability to help
financially, please do. You might donate to either of the two noble institutions: Operation Scugog
or Community Care Durham (Scugog). You can also send funds to our Rotary Club and we will
find a way to help our community further. Donations made to the Rotary Club will receive a
charitable receipt. Please include your name, address, and phone number on all donations.
