SCUGOG -- The Rotary Club of Port Perry will highlight its three decades of service to the Scugog community at its annual Spring Gala on April 11.

The Scugog service club will host its annual spring fundraiser at Royal Ashburn Golf Club on April 11 and will celebrate its 30 years in the community with a look at ‘Rotary in Scugog’.

Key contributions to the community made by the Rotary club include $100,000 towards the recent Scugog library expansion, financial support for the endoscopy suite at the Port Perry hospital, care for the Rotary Environment Park boardwalk and gazebo in Palmer Park, and the club’s annual seniors’ dinner. The club has also supported Easter Seals, the annual hospital auxiliary polar plunge, the Santa Claus parade, Operation Scugog food bank, Scugog Lake Stewards and Community Care Scugog. As well, the Rotary club has handed out student bursaries and taken part in international student exchanges.

The club has also made literacy a focus through its efforts by donating dictionaries to local schools and partnering with the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation to provide books to reserves in Northern Ontario.

Recently, the Rotary Club of Port Perry made a $50,000 donation to the ‘Your Hospital, Your Future’ renovation campaign at the Port Perry hospital.

A highlight at this year’s spring gala will be a custom-designed pendant from Dana Smith at Dana’s Goldsmithing in Port Perry which features a spring theme and floral motif with three gemstones symbolizing the past, present and future of Rotary. It will be a feature raffle item.
